Using DataMold
Publishing & sharing
Statuses, the hosted link, private links, embedding and prefilling.
Form statuses
A form is always in one of four states, set in its settings:
| Status | Meaning | A responder sees |
|---|---|---|
| Draft | Not reachable | This form has not been published yet. |
| Published | Accepting responses | The form. |
| Closed | Visible, not accepting | The form’s closed message. |
| Archived | Hidden from the list | This form is no longer available. |
A published form also stops accepting answers when:
- its opening time has not come yet ("This form is not open yet.");
- its closing time has passed;
- it has reached its response limit (0 means no limit);
- the organization has used its plan's responses for the month.
In the last three cases the responder sees the form's closed message, which you can write yourself (by default, "This form is no longer accepting responses.").
The hosted link
Every form has a page of its own on DataMold, at an address like this:
https://datamold.crawlink.com/f?form=YOUR_FORM_SLUGThe slug is a short random id made for each form — it is what you share, and it is not the form's internal id. Copy the full link from the form's Share tab.
Who can open the link
On the Share tab, choose between:
- Only links shared from here (the default for new forms). Each link you copy from DataMold carries its own signature and works for the time you choose — 1, 7 (the default), 30 or 90 days, or with no expiry. An expired link tells the visitor to ask for a new one.
- Anyone with the address — the plain link always opens.
People in your organization can always open the form. To cancel every link you have shared, use Reset all shared links; links shared afterwards work as normal.
After a response is sent
Show a thank-you message (by default "Thanks — we have your response.") or send the responder to a web address of your own. The redirect applies on the hosted page; an embedded form always shows the thank-you message with the response's reference code.
Embedding on your website
Paste this where the form should appear. The form's own snippet is on its Share tab and on its card in Forms.
<div data-crawlink-form="YOUR_FORM_SLUG"></div>
<script src="https://datamold.crawlink.com/embed.js" async></script>The script replaces the div with the form in a frame and keeps the frame exactly as tall
as the form as it changes. Several forms on one page are fine, and forms added to the page later (in
a single-page app) are picked up automatically.
Options
| Attribute | What it does |
|---|---|
data-crawlink-form | Required. The form's slug. |
data-hide-header | Leaves out the form's title and description. |
data-prefill | A JSON object of field keys and values to fill in — for hidden fields and answers you already know. |
data-title | The frame's title for screen readers. Defaults to "Form". |
data-height | A fixed height in pixels. Automatic sizing is switched off. |
<div
data-crawlink-form="YOUR_FORM_SLUG"
data-hide-header
data-title="Book a demo"
data-prefill='{"plan": "pro", "source": "pricing-page"}'
></div>
<script src="https://datamold.crawlink.com/embed.js" async></script>A plain iframe
Where you cannot add a script (some site builders), use a frame. It will not resize itself, so give it a height that fits the form.
<iframe src="https://datamold.crawlink.com/embed?form=YOUR_FORM_SLUG" width="100%" height="700" style="border:0"></iframe>Allowed domains
Under Settings → Domains (or on a form's Share tab) you can list the websites allowed to show your forms. While the list is empty, any site can. Once it has one entry, only the listed sites can embed your forms or use the public submission API.
example.com— that site exactly.*.example.com— the site and all its subdomains.localhost— for testing on your own computer.- Each entry can apply to the whole organization or to one form.
Prefilling answers from the link
Add a field's key to the link as a query parameter and that field starts filled in. It works on the hosted page and on embeds — and it is how Hidden fields get their value, for example to record which campaign a visitor came from.
https://datamold.crawlink.com/f?form=YOUR_FORM_SLUG&full_name=Asha%20Rao&plan=proSpam protection
With spam protection on (the default), forms carry an invisible trap field that bots fill in, and refuse a submission made faster than a person could (2 seconds by default; you can set 0 to 60). On top of that, one address can send at most 60 responses a minute to a form.
Posting from your own code
To keep your own form design and send the answers to DataMold, post them to the form's public endpoint — no key needed. See Submitting without a key.
